One of the favorite tactics of scammers is to impersonate a person or organization you know and trust. you will receive a text message from your bank that appears to be a fraud alert.
When you reply to the text, the scammer knows that this is an active number and there is a person to scam. Then there is a link in the message. Clicking on it can put your phone at risk.
Some of these messages tell you to call a phone number. If you do, the person on the other end will pretend to be a bank representative to help prevent fraudulent payments. They can then guide you through a complex money transfer system that can cost you thousands.
