A new scam that has recently come to our attention is the "Harbor Freight Winner Email" scam, operating under the guise of Harbor Freight Tools, a reputable nationwide retailer of power tools and equipment. Scammers have been attempting to exploit Harbor Freight's extensive customer base by sending out fake emails claiming that the recipient has won a contest or giveaway.

The fraudulent email sent by scammers appears to be from Harbor Freight, informing the recipient that they have won a contest and can claim a toolkit for the mere cost of $9.95 in shipping fees. To claim the prize, the recipient is instructed to click on a link and fill out a survey. 

The Subscription trap

When user click on the link, they were taken to to fill out the survey, at the end of the survey, participants discover that they haven't won the tools as promised; instead, they have entered a monthly drawing for the prize. by paying the shipping fees, they unwittingly sign up for an ongoing membership program with a monthly charge of $122.75. The scammers claim this fee is for "exclusive access to their app." Although the terms and conditions mention that the subscription can be canceled anytime after the first payment, there is no readily available contact information, such as a phone number or email address, to facilitate the cancellation process.
